This is not a replica of a vintage Belle Époque absinthe fountain, but it is still one of the most popular fountains. It is handcrafted and has a classic "pineapple" finial on its lid, which can be removed to add ice-cold water to the mouth-blown glass bowl. This decorative pineapple motif is a symbol of hospitality and friendship. In the past, absinthe fountains were considered luxury items due to their high price, and customers would typically prepare their drinks themselves by pouring an ounce of absinthe into their glass, placing an absinthe spoon on top with a sugar cube, and then adding water and ice to the fountain bowl. Slowly turning the spigot would release the ice-cold water over the sugar cube, resulting in a milky-white emulsion of the anise oils and aromas of fennel, grand wormwood, and anise. It is important to remember to refresh the water before each use.
